Tirupati participates in the Cree LED City® Program

Tirupati in the Chittoor district of Andhra Pradesh, India has participated in the Cree LED City® Program.

Tirupati is one of India's important pilgrimage centers and a major economical and education hub in the southern region of Andhra Pradesh. To better light two of the city's busiest roads, Tirupati converted more than 140 street lights to LED fixtures.

So Avni Energy Solution Pvt. Ltd, a Tirupati-based company, installed 72 Watt LED street lights, featuring Cree XLamp® LEDs. Compared to traditional sodium vapor street lighting, it estimates energy savings of more than 70 percent. Tirupati Municipal Corporation estimates a monthly savings of 6,187 units of electricity, which is equivalent to 288,000 Indian Rupee a year or 6,500 USD annually.
