Hong Kong Housing Authority’s LED Plan

The Housing Authority in Hong Kong has scheduled to replace fluorescent lamps in the corridors of public housing estates with LED lighting.

Several issues including the price, plus the fact it does not function properly in hot weather, and the repair problem need to be considered.
Housing Department chief manager Ho Wing-ip said tests are being done in various housing units to see which brand is most suitable.

In addition to the tests in public housing, the authority will also spend HK$270 million to improve the transformers in lamps, replacing the electromagnetic balance with an electronic balance, thereby saving 20 percent energy in every lamp.
