Philips to Make Up 45% of the Global Lighting Market by 2015

Philips Lighting (China) vice president and general manager Chandra Vaidyanathan in Guangzhou said that “by 2015, LED lighting will make up 45 percent of the global lighting market. This is especially true for China where proportions will be even bigger thanks to strong government promotion.”

Upon entering the Chinese market, Chandra expressed that Philips is strengthening their market R&D, design development, purchase production and sales, providing lighting solutions from start to finish. “This is all in order to realize the goal of obtaining 50 percent of the total LED market by 2015,” said Chandra.

OLED is the current focus of the market, boasting higher liquid crystal luminosity than LED and a thinner design, it might be the future replacement of LED LCDs. However, the head of Philips China R&D and Head of Philips Research China klaasVegter believes that OLED is still in the early stages of development and with a lot of room left for growth but that current LED lighting developments indicates LED is entering an era of mass adoption.
