The Philippines Move To Reduce Carbon Emission by Switching to LED Streetlights

The most populous city in the Philippines is making the switch to LED streetlights. Quezon City, part of Metro Manila, will replace the current sodium streetlights with new energy efficient LEDs.

Herbert Bautista, mayor of Quezon City, plans to purchase 900 LED replacement lights and control panel systems. He has requested a budget of PHP $ 20 million (US $448 thousand) from the city’s Budget Department.

The LED streetlights will help to reduce the carbon dioxide emissions in the city by around 125 tons per year, according to ABS-CBN News.
