Innovative Light Measurement Equipment Showcased at Light+Building 2014
Light measurement equipment manufacturers from around the world gathered at this year’s Light+Building in Frankfurt, Germany. A few of the large manufacturers in attendance included German companies LMT and Instrument Systems, American LabSphere, and Chinese comapny EVERFINE. Companies showcased their many new innovative products, including integration spheres, goniometers, spectrometeres, and more.
Among the companies exhibiting their products were some recently established start-ups, but very innovative companies such as ASENSE TEK from Taiwan and VISO Systems Aps from Denmark. These companies have challenged the statu-quo of heavy and costly equipment by making Light Measurement portable and more accessible either in terms of software ergonomy, size or budget to reach a common ultimate goal : obtain quality measurements. The companies all share one thing in common, which is the passion of their founders and a team fully dedicated to lighting.
The aspects that differs the most among the various solutions displayed at Light+Building are in the software ergonomy and development. For example, users of the LightSpion™ are able to instantly evaluate whether their tested product passes the new European Union latest regulations or not (ex. : Energy Efficiency Index that is enforced since September 2013) or to evaluate key components of their CRI such as the « R9 ». Product such as the LightSpion™ allows users to carry its minilab equivalent to an integration sphere, a power analyser, a spectrometer and a goniometer altogether.
Denmark manufacturer VISO Systems first demonstrated their invention at Light+Building in 2012 and continued develping it since then in order to cope with demanding clients. Demands poured in from chip and lamp manufacturers, component manufacturers, and lamp and fitting sourcing companies. This year, VISO Systems launched the « Extend » option to measure large light sources up to 22cm, as well as the LabSpion™ that will be officially on sale in the next few weeks. The LabSpion™ can roughly make the same measurements as the LightSpion™, but for large and very large fittings.
