Taiwanese LED manufacturer Lextar announced revenue for May 2014 was up 7.3 percent compared to the previous month to NT $1.26 billion (US $ 40 million). However, on a Year-on-Year basis, the company revenue slid 4.3 percent.
The company attributed revenue growth to increasing backlight and lighting orders in 2Q14, and noted on average utilization rates exceeded 90 percent. Lextar expanded package production capacity in Taiwan and China’s Suzhou factory, and projects installing new equipment throughout 2Q14. The company expects the new equipment to contribute to 3Q14 revenue.
Lighting application performance was overall better last month, as the company continued to supply 3030 and 5050 mid to high power LED components to top European brands. The company’s deployment of lighting components including high CRI 90 products were well received by American and European clients, according to the company’s press release.
The company also said it had seen strong growth in luminaires and has continued to ship panel luminaires to European brands, and is supplying about 20,000 units per month. The company is also cooperating with Asian clients to develop new tube products, which are expected to enter mass production at the end of 2Q14. For backlight applications, direct-type backlit tubes are still the main product type, consisting more than half of company revenue. Most of the company’s flash lighting products are supplied to major Chinese smartphone brands.
