Having once made the covers of renowned technology media Wired for its creative LED thermal management solution, Switch, a startup company has gone out of business, according to a report from GigaOm.

The company is reportedly troubled with unpaid bills lawsuits. Other factors such as low sales, intense competition and customer complaints also contributed to Switch’s light out.

Founded seven years ago under the name of SuperBulb, Switch Lighting swore to provide the market with the lowest priced LED using its novelty thermal management. Unlike most LED bulbs that use aluminum heat sinks to dissipate heat, Switch bulbs used liquid within the bulb to cool the LED.

Since liquids are a more efficient cooling medium than air, more power was assigned to the LED. This in turn allowed the company to reduce the number of LEDs required and thereby lower costs.

Switch touted its product as an incandescent killer.

Despite the low priced LED bulb claims, the first bulb retailed for US $50 back in 2012 when it first hit the markets. This first version of Switch bulb has a nice look and weighed around 1 pound.

Switch Infinia was the company's last product before shutting down.
