The Indian government aims to distribute more than 60 million LED bulbs through State-owned Energy Efficiency Services (EESL) within one year, said the country’s Power Minister Piyush Goyal recently.
"We will get 100X (times) growth in 1 year in LED Distribution at @EESL_India (Energy Efficiency Services Ltd) - From 6 lakh (600,000) to 6 crore (60 million)," Goyal tweeted.
The government has distributed about 37.7 million LED bulbs through power distribution companies under its Domestic Efficient Lighting Program (DELP).
EESL will be procuring LED bulbs for distribution under the DELP scheme. The company has procured LED bulbs for around INR 73 per bulb as of June, the latest procurement price is a significant reduction of up to 75% from INR 310 in February 2014.
“If EESL was a private firm, we could have never reduced LED bulb price by 76%,” said Goyal.
