Capital of Bangladesh to be lit with LEDs by End of 2016

Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh in India plans to replace traditional streetlights comprising of sodium, fluorescent and CFLs with LEDs, reported Dhaka Tribune.

City authorities are going to install LED streetlights to improve security on the streets, and to provide better illumination so law enforcers can perform their duties properly, said Mayor of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Sayeed Khokon.

A total of 71,726 streetlights is installed through the city based on a survey by the government’s Power Cell conducted in 2014.

All streetlights in Shahid Minar area of the city are scheduled to be converted to LEDs by Feb. 21, 2016, said Khokon at the Clean Dhaka 20Sixteen campaign that took place recently.

LED streetlights will also replace the existing streetlights in the area of Ekushey Boi Mela before the fair starts off tomorrow, he added.

“All streetlights in the city will be LED lights this year,” said Khokon.
