Hot Picks of the Week Feb.1-5

Highlights this week:

GE announced it will no longer be manufacturing CFL lights in the U.S. market, and will be embracing LED lights in the future. ENERGY STAR’s raised energy efficiency standards, which has left CFLs in the dust, was cited as the main cause behind the shift. Other points mentioned in the company’s press release also hinted to its increased focus and strategy in smart lights.

A summary of major manufacturers development this week: Osram reported better than expected results for fiscal year 2016, and announced it has started to supply laser headlight modules to BMW. Dutch lighting giant’s smart lighting control brand Philips Dynalite announced that it has ended its long term distribution partnership with Dalitek.Epistar sold its factory in Hsinchu, Taiwan to Mediatek for around US $22 million.

The UK’s subsidiary policy to large enterprises, such as supermarket franchise Sainsbury, to upgrade to LED lights has attracted criticism. The country has allocated in total US $6.8 million to 24 large enterprises in the country to replace traditional lights with LEDs.

As for notable products this week, Samsung and Lumileds have both launched high power LED modules for outdoor or industrial lighting applications. Smart security lighting manufacturers ComfyLight and BeOn announced receiving additional financing from supporters.
