Revolution Lighting to Light up Des Moines University with LED Tubes

Revolution Lighting Technologies, a leader in advanced LED lighting technology solutions, today announced that it has been selected by Des Moines University (DMU), an osteopathic medical and health sciences university in Des Moines, Iowa, for a lighting retrofit installing its T8 LED tube technology. The project includes a complete retrofit of all six campus buildings with Revolution Lighting's T8 SEP LED tubes to increase energy efficiency, decrease maintenance costs, and improve quality of light, achieving a return on investment of only 1.5 years.

"Revolution Lighting's premium quality LED solutions will allow Des Moines University to maximize our energy efficiency goals and provide superior light quality for our students," said David McNerney, director of facilities at DMU. "We look forward to continuing our efforts, capitalizing on leading technologies to become a more sustainable and energy-efficient institution, while providing a healthy learning environment."

The retrofit program will install Revolution Lighting's T8 LED tubes to reduce the energy consumption across retrofit lighting by more than 60%. This is combined with a market-leading 10-year warranty and significantly improved lamp life of 70,000 hours, compared to 20,000 hours for their fluorescent counterpart, to deliver significantly reduced maintenance and utility costs for the university. Additionally, light output across retrofit lighting for DMU is expected to improve by 66%, does not require a warm-up period, and is controllable through various types of sensors and lighting control systems. The project was secured by Larry Kirsner and L. Kirsner Enterprises, Inc., a Revolution Lighting Technologies authorized dealer.

Revolution Lighting Technologies continues to be a leader in energy efficiency within the education sector. In addition to Des Moines University, Revolution Lighting has recently secured LED lighting projects throughout public school systems within New Jersey, Connecticut and Pennsylvania.

"We are proud to work with academic institutions such as Des Moines University, providing them with Revolution Lighting's LED solutions to create a more energy-efficient and productive learning environment for its students and faculty," said Robert V. LaPenta, CEO and Chairman of Revolution Lighting. "The continued selection of Revolution Lighting's LED technology among both public and higher education systems throughout the U.S. validates the confidence in our company as a leader to transform lighting into a source of superior energy savings, quality light and well-being."

Lighting represents upwards of 40% of the $7 billion annual energy and utility expenses for higher education, according to a U.S. Environmental Protection Agency report. Revolution Lighting's LED lighting products offer a critical opportunity for the 4,700 U.S. colleges and universities to save $1.7 billion annually by improving lighting efficiency more than 60%, while providing superior photometrics, eliminating UV radiation and visible lamp light depreciation to increase motivation, positively impact mental well-being, and improve concentration and productivity for students and faculty.
