Everlight collaborates with Amtran to gain a foothold in LED TV

According to sorces, Taiwan-based LED packaging house Everlight Electronics is collaborating with Taiwan’s OEM company, Amtran, to develop LED TV backlight products. TV backlight samples have been sent to Korean maker LG, and the earliest delivery is expected in Q4. Meanwhile, Tekcore, through the connection of having Everlight as its one of its stakeholders, may have the opportunity to enter the LED TV supply chain.

Everlight Vice President Pang-yen Liu remarked that currently, Everlight’s revenues are largely contributed by small- and mid-sized backlight, while shipment of LED TV has not begun. Among Taiwan-based packagers, Unity Opto was the vanguard in the LED TV backlight products. However, Everlight has already made a joint effort with Amtran to develop LED TV –the launch of Amtran’s 55-inch LED TV is slated for Sepctember-October, and Amtran’s LED TV penetration may reach 30% of total shipment by 2010. As Amtran’s LCD TV shipments are forecast to reach 6.4 million units, which translate to about 1.92 million units of LED TV.
