LED chip manufacturer Chi Mei Technology Corp went out of business last month after a surprise exodus by the company’s board members. A staggering amount of NT$5.6 billion in unpaid debts has lead to anger from creditor banks. The phones were ringing off the hook yesterday (7) for Chi Mei’s top shareholder Innolux with calls from legal persons and investors. Philips lights historic inner courtyard of Sofitel Legend The Grand Amsterdam with new LED lighting

The monumental facade and inner courtyard of Sofitel Legend The Grand Amsterdam  is now lit by new, custom-designed LED lighting from Royal Philips Electronics. The outdoor lighting accentuates the characteristic features of the historic building. The premises where a luxury hotel locates in can be traced back to the 15th century, and in the past the building had served as Amsterdam's town hall and a monastery. Following the switch-over to Philips LED lighting for the indoor lighting inside the luxury hotel several years ago, the exterior part of The Grand is now also being illuminated by LED lighting. OSRAM to Sell Its Traditional Plant in Shaoxing to Focus on LED Lighting

It is reported that OSRAM agreed to sell its traditional factory located in Shaoxing, China, because Siemens' subsidiary OSRAM achieved poor performance, and lighting equipment department intends to streamline business before it is listed to focus on LED lighting development. LED die manufacturers are stabilizing raw material sources in the wake of rising LED lighting demands, and competition from other sapphire substrate applications. Epistar has reached a Patterned Sapphire Substrate (PSS) production capacity agreement with Crystalwise and Rigidtech Microelectronics (Rigidtech), in which two PSS production lines from each company will be fully supporting Epistar. Osram illuminates the tenth cruise ship of Aida fleet with 9,000 lamps and a “strip” of more than 1 kilometers of LEDs. Aidastella, also called "the swimming city," has a total length of 253 meters and a width of 32 meters, and offers space for 1097 passengers.
