The challenges of GaN growth on Si(111), especially for LED growth, are well known and meanwhile controllable. Cooldown-assisted layer cracking as a result of high tensile stress can be prevented and crystal quality can be enhanced by sophisticated interlayers. Numerous institutions worldwide are already using LayTec‘s EpiCurve TT with advanced curvature resolution for high quality GaN devices on large scale Silicon substrates. Now, this experience is being transferred to growth on Si(001) and Si(110), because GaN based power electronics can be easily in...

UL Taiwan has pointed out that LED lighting firms have to face difficulties to enter different markets due to entry barriers. They need to face variations in safety standards and power voltages while trying to obtain local certification for the products. Otherwise, it would be difficult to bid for projects. For example, LED components need to pass LM-79 LED luminaire testing, which can take up to nine months. Even more, some firms have been waiting to get products tested for six months, which means the entire process will take about one and a half year. And because of t...

Thanks to the joint efforts among fellow vendors over cost structure improvement, technology advancement and quality enhancement, the global LED industry has indeed undergone a structural change that marks a big leap as compare with the industry couple years ago. While technology innovations bring prosperity, irrational price competition amid intensifying competition among vendors also drags margins further down. Customers’ content over a pricing sweet spot is indeed built on the stiff margin pressure among fellow LED vendors. Some have already found no profit by taking ch...
