Recently, Chien Fu Shieh, the Chairman of LED sapphire substrate manufacturer Tera Xtal(4969), revealed that the company plans to establish crystal-growing and substrate plants in China. The plan will be carried out in 1Q12 at the soonest. Shieh pointed out that LCD TV’s weak demand caused a steep drop in the prices of sapphire ingot and substrate. Recently, Formosa Epitaxy Inc. (FOREPI) is reported to regained Samsung’s contracts for LED chips used in TV backlights since October, and the South Korean company will gradually move the contracts originally placed with Epistar Inc. back to FOREPI over the next three years.
Both Epistar and FOREPI have declined to comment. However, FOREPI executives said that the company has landed more contracts in November than October from South Korean buyers by an unexpectedly high margin.

Chinese government has imposed the ban against incandescent lights, and is expected to announce the subsidy policies for LED light bulbs at the end of 2011.
