It's reported TOKYO (AP) -- Toshiba Corp. and Matsushita Electric Industrial Co. will start making next-generation displays at their joint plant by the second half of 2009.

By the time you source a LED of sufficient intensity and organize and position a dropping resistor, it's a project that very rapidly loses appeal!

Recently, Toshiba released new LED lights that are shaped like midget reflector and beam lamps.LED-based midget Reflector and Beam Lamps can be used with the existing light bulb sockets without any special adjustment because they have the E26 base. The new lights use Nichia Corp's LED. The light source comes in two types, with one incandescent and the other white. They are expected to be used as the illumination lighting for signboards, facilities and shops.

It's reported that KINCROME Australia has released two ranges of workshop lights using fluorescent and cordless LED technology.The "Fluoro" range includes four 240V fluorescent lamps, three of which have five metre leads and one with a 15m lead.The units differ in wattages, ranging from 13W up to the 26W featured by a twin fluorescent tube lamp. According to the company, the lamps have high impact shatterproof bodies, drop-resistant lenses, protective bumpers and ergonomic grip handles.

Recently, Japanese LED maker Nichia Corporation has filed a patent infringement lawsuit in Germany against its Korean rival, Seoul Semiconductor Co. Ltd. The lawsuit claims that Seoul's Acriche series white LED product infringes the Nichia patent EP(DE)622858. Seoul's German subsidiary, Seoul Semiconductor Europe GmbH, and its German distributor, Conrad Electronic SE, are also listed in the lawsuit, which seeks injunctive relief and compensation for damages.

Recently, Merck KGaA and DELO Industrial Adhesives announced that they had formed a strategic partnership in the field of organic light-emitting diode (OLED) technology. Within the scope of their agreement, the companies plan to develop future system solutions for OLED applications. The companies will join forces to market OLED adhesive products from DELO through Merck’s extensive marketing and sales channels.

Recently, Luxell Technologies Inc. (TSX:LUX) is pleased to report it has now been issued an additional U.S. patent (No. 7372436). The patent specifically relates to reducing ambient light reflections off of the display face and provides OLED displays with greater sunlight legibility. The resulting end-display will benefit from an increased readability and from reduced production costs as the use of polarizing filters is no longer required.

Today, Toshiba will unveil of a new full color LED display, Toshiba Vision Times Square, that supports over one billion colors and high definition resolution. The new LED display will take pride of place at the top of One Times Square Building, and carry its message to the crowded streets 285 feet (about 87 meters) below. It will be switched on today, at 19:30 EST.

Yesterday, Honeywell announced that it has signed a contract with Airbus valued in excess of $80 million to upgrade the navigation wingtip lighting on the A320 to Light Emitting Diode (LED) technology that lasts more than 40 times longer than current halogen technology, resulting in significantly lowered maintenance costs for airline operators.

Recently, Joliet Technology has launched a range of street lights based on high power LED (light emitting diode) technology. The range offers a selection of LED mast head lamp units designed to replace existing sodium and metal halide street lamps, a simple LED light bulb that fits standard E40 bulb holders, a specially designed tunnel light for underground applications, and a solar powered street light system which is totally independent of mains power.

Recently, Philips has signed a public-private partnership (PPP) agreement with the Dutch Government, which will see the development of a new generation of sustainable, LED-based, solar-powered lighting products for sub-Saharan Africa. The new PPP agreement aims to provide 10 million people in 14 countries in sub-Saharan Africa with affordable, appropriate and sustainable energy solutions and services by 2015.
