BIXBY, MAY 29: The use of LED lights for signage in Bixby are clearly going to be allowed without condition according to a decision made by the council Tuesday night, May 27, at a Bixby city council meeting.
City Planner, Erik Enyart, had brought a proposal to the council earlier at which time the mayor said there should be no limiting of the lights when the city wants businesses to be welcomed.
Enyart had to return to the council, however, because a change had to be made in the current ordinance to allow for the LED lights.

Mission assignment: Sort through the zillion or so exhibits in the Las Vegas Convention Center to find the companies that claim they are serious about selling solid state lighting fixtures or enabling technologies/modules that bring LED-lighting to everyone's life. In 2007, that narrowed the field to about 1/2 the exhibitors. Here in 2008, it almost appeared as though the only ones not offering some kind of LED-lighting products were the security people (but I suspect they were merely in stealth mode and likely have products in late-stage R&D).

LEDs will light the notebook-PC-display-backlighting market ablaze during the next few years, with iSuppli Corp predicting that nine out of 10 large mobile-PC LCD panels will use the technology by 2012. The market-research company estimates that 90% of large LCD-notebook-PC panels manufacturers ship in 2012 will employ LEDs to backlight their displays, rocketing up from just 4.7% in the fourth quarter of 2007. LED-backlit large LCD-notebook-PC-panel shipments will surge to 17.4 million units by the end of 2008, up by more than a factor of six from 2007, the company forecasts.

Advanced Analogic Technologies has introduced a 2-MHz boost-converter IC that uses a supercapacitor to provide a large peak current to an LED-flash system. The 2A AAT1282 flash driver incorporates I2C control and accepts input voltages of 2.7 to 5.5V. Designers can use the device's two 1A current sinks to drive two LEDs and can parallel these outputs to drive one 2A LED. The IC allows designers to set 16 levels for movie, or "torch," mode and has a true-load-disconnection feature that guarantees a shutdown current of less than 1 μA.
