After introducing LED power supplies with aluminum casing (CLG family) and fully enclosed plastic casing (PLN, PLC, ELN, LP family), MEAN WELL launched another LED product category, AC/DC open frame type for the “low cost” and “built-in” installation of LED lighting related applications. With the new PLP-45(45W), in addition to its existing PLP-30(30W) and PLP-60(60W) series, MEAN WELL offers LED system designers three different wattage options – 30W, 45W and 60W, which fully satisfies the low power wattage required. Featuring 90~264VAC full range input and built-in active PFC function, PLP-45 series complies with EN61000-3-2 Class C (harmonic current) and PF>0.9 when output loading is higher than 75%, fulfilling the general requirement of lighting fixtures.

Thanks to the simplified single stage PFC topology, the required high power factor can be achieved economically. Efficiency of PLP-45 series is as high as 89% and hence can operate at full load between -30℃ and +60℃ by only free air convection, the ambient temperature maxes at 70℃, which is often requested by lighting systems. Through adjustment of built-in potential meter, output current level of the PSU can be fine tuned between 75~100% rated value to comply with the requirement of LED characteristics. Other standard functions include short circuit, over load, and over voltage protections.

Based on the case-less and 4”x2” miniature PCB design, typical applications for these new PCB type LED driver units include general indoor LED lighting, LED-based decorative lighting, and LED electrical display which has its own system casing.
