Simple Lighting Company Responds to Leicester's LED Street Lamps

The online retailers at Simple Lighting co. have shared their thoughts on the news that the £13.8 million programme in Leicester, to replace all sodium street lights with energy efficient lamps has reached its 1,000th upgrade.

It has been reported in This is Leicester that the three year scheme, run by Leicester City Council, began in February, during which time 1,000 lamps have now been refitted with LED technology. By February 2016, the project is expected to see 33,000 sodium lamps replaced. There are also plans to install a new central management system to enable the brightness of the lamps to be altered through the night to meet local requirements. Once all the replacements have been made, the council should be able to cut its lighting bill by at least 57%, whilst also reducing carbon emissions by over 5,300 tons per year.

It is estimated that the venture should pay for itself in just over 10 years. Councillor Lynn Moore explained that "that will help to save money and make people feel safer in their homes."

Best known for their range of affordable yet high quality LED strip lights and tape lights, Simple Lighting provide a wide range of domestic and commercial lights. Regularly approached by customers eager to access the energy saving benefits of the light emitting diodes, the team were not surprised to hear of more street light transitions. A representative shares their thoughts on the matter.

"We have begun to see a number of areas make the switch to LED street lamps, not least in Scotland, where an entire takeover is planned. As well as making considerable savings over a period of time, it also helps councils meet their environmental responsibilities."
