Halo Belt, a San Francisco based company, successfully concluded its kickstarter project in 2012 for a bright LED belt that improved pedestrian safety at night. The company has recently come back with a new fundraising project for its second generation product Halo Belt 2.0.
Citing a UN report, the company pointed out up to 270,000 pedestrians are killed each year, and that Halo Belt 2.0 could save lives by increasing night time visibility. The Halo Belt 2.0 is especially designed for law enforcement, highway patrol, military, roadside safety, jogging, cycling, hiking or child safety.

According to the company, the new belt has been redesigned from the previous generation to be brighter and rechargeable. It integrates an in-house custom designed LED fiber optic system and 3M reflective elastic onto the belt so it can be adjustable. The belt that is USB rechargeable takes two hours to charge up and can run for 36 hours. The belt comes in blue, green and orange colors, and while it is water resistant it cannot be fully submerged in water.

After the first successful Kickstarter project in 2012, the company has successfully lowered the costs for a single belt from US$ 85 a piece to US$ 37 with shipping fees included. The project so far has raised US$ 55,374, nearly 5.5 times the pledged goal of US$ 10,000.
