Understanding Lumia Data Sheets (Part 1)

When reading Data Sheets that we always provide together with our products, there can be some definitions or values that maybe are not easy to understand, or sometimes we don’t know exactly how to use this information. Therefore we have decided to write this article, to give a more in-depth view on what all-content means in our Data Sheets.

Product Review

The first section of our Data Sheets gives an overview of the product and where this product can be used most efficiently. The main features of the product are described to, giving a quick and easy overview of the product. See an example below.

Technical Parameters

This section shows the main technical specifications of the product. These data will ensure that you find the most suitable product to the specific installation you are working on.

Total Harmonic Distortion

Harmonics represents unwanted currents at the line frequency (50 or 60Hz). These harmonics can produce added voltage and power losses in the power lines. Too many or too high THD will cause outages and potentially more severe outcomes.

This is a phenomenon that will happen with any AC LED driver and therefore the number has to be as low as possible. If this number is too high, the capacitors will overheat and tear on not only the light source but potentially other electrical applications in the installation as well. Therefore we strongly recommend to never accept any products that have a higher THD than 25 percent.

Type of Diodes

Here we mention the supplier, which LED technology is being used for the light source, and finally the type of LED chip. In the above picture it can be seen that the supplier is EPISTAR and the LED technology is Surface Mounted Device (SMD), which means that the diode is soldered directly onto the PCB and therefore requires less space and improves the thermal connection.

2835 basically means the size of the chip. In this case, 2835 is 2,8 x 3,5 mm. It is a new chip and more advanced than 5050, because of its effective thermal dissipation system from a more advanced heat sink and can, as a result, use higher current and generate more luminous flux.

Input Voltage

This indicates the voltage range that this product can be installed in, so when installing the product the AC range has be within the range for the product to be fully functional.
