As more wearable devices flood the market, some manufacturers are now tapping into the pet attire and accessories market.
U.S. manufacturer Party New York seems to be one of the manufacturers vying to position itself in the high-tech pet fashion industry, and is in the process of developing a color changing smart LED dog vest, Disco Dog.
The smart LED system entails programmable 256 RGB LEDs managed with a microcontroller, Bluetooth low energy chip, and powered by a rechargeable 3.7V lithium polymer battery.

Users can customize animated LED modes, and even messages displayed on the vest via a smartphone.
Moreover, the vest comes with a “Lost Dog Mode”, which display the words “Lost Dog” if the dog wanders off too far.
Dog owners who want to get their hands on the vests might be disappointed to learn that the vest is still in beta mode. Only a limited 80 vests are available for backers of the company’s Kickstarter project, which aims to raise enough funding to bring the vests into mass production phase.

Yet, with the vests selling as much as an Apple Watch at US $300 it might not be for everyone.
These vests also bring up the question of when manufacturers will enter the niche market of cat accessories and make smart LED vests for cats?
