THE CHALLENGE
In the heart of Taipei and cordoned off from all visitors, stood an abandoned factory that a century ago was a wine-producing facility. Rediscovered in 1997, the Huashan 1914 Creative Park was one of the least known and most well-preserved structures in Taiwan. Half a century later, this space has been partially restored and is home to community arts events and temporary pop-up shops.
One such pop-up shop, Tools to Liveby, is a “letterpress workshop” producing and selling notebooks, stationery and other products that show “uncommon beauty in common things.” The shop owners strive to help their customers enjoy the small details in daily life. Inside the shop, stationery products are displayed alongside the printing press machines, allowing visitors to watch as their personalized notebook covers are printed.
Illuminating a historic space and unique store front presented some design challenges: how to properly light the shop to highlight the contrasting, colorful products while lighting the small windowless, historic space without changing or damaging the structure.

THE SOLUTION
To illuminate this unique space, Tools to Liveby worked with Chubic Lighting Consultant and Aeco Light. They chose Soraa’s full visible spectrum PAR30 LED lamps, taking advantage of Soraa’s GaN on GaN™ LED technology that emits beautiful, high intensity light from a single point source, and the company’s Violet-Emission 3-Phosphor (VP3) LED technology that accurately renders colors and whiteness.

THE BENEFITS
Inside the Tools to Liveby space, Soraa’s lamps are in seven pendent fixtures that bring the color of the stationery displayed in wooden crates to life. Additionally, lamps in the track lighting create layers of lighting, giving the small space a spacious feel.
Tools to LiveBy proved that what looks good on paper is Soraa’s exceedingly efficient and extraordinarily beautiful LED light.
