The future of automotive lighting.

The future of halogen and HID replacement bulbs will soon be in decline due to the latest developments in lighting technologies such as LED, OLED, Laser and Matrix in which Osram is the innovation leader. You will have seen for many years’ cars being manufactured with LEDs used in Daytime Running Light (DRL) applications; Osram are now working even closer with the leading vehicle manufacturers developing Laser and Matrix lighting solutions. In most recent years Osram have worked with BMW, and now supply the BMW i8 and more recently, the BMW 7 Series range with laser modules for headlight applications. Laser lights are the next big thing in automotive lighting. Thanks to their high luminance (which is significantly greater than that of any other light source available today) and the smaller space requirements of laser light, headlights can be made even smaller than they are already.

Presenting the LED/OLED rear light demonstrator.

At the show Osram will be demonstrating an LED/OLED rear light cluster, which showcases four lighting functions: brake light, turn indicator, reverse light and rear light. With OLED it is possible to create illuminated surfaces in practically any shape or size and place them right next to each other. Visit the Osram stand at the show to see this latest innovation in automotive lighting that can also be combined with LEDs, opening up a wider range of design options for rear lighting on cars of the future.
