Indian State Goa Lifts LED Fishing Light Ban

News Source:

Goa, a state in India has lifted its ban of using LED fishing lights on boats, and now will permit the use of these lighting equipment on boats in areas beyond 12 nautical miles, which is the boundary of jurisdiction for the state, said Fisheries Minister Avertano Furtado, reported The Navhind Times.

Responding to inquiries of the legislators over governments position on the use of LED lights-backed fishing method, Furtado told the House that the ban on LED lights will be enforced as an extension on the current night fishing ban within the state’s territorial waters.

“There is no problem if they go beyond 12 nautical miles for fishing. We have put only two conditions on them. One they have to submit an affidavit stating that they would not fish in state waters. And, they should install trackers so that we are able to verify their location of fishing,” he told the House.
