Nan Ya Photonics Aims to Innovate in High-Value Health and Hazardous LED Lighting Applications

These days, LEDs are increasingly being used as replacements for traditional lamps and other electronic appliances. This makes sense, since lighting in general is responsible for up to 20% of the world's electricity consumption. As a result, it has become even more crucial to develop advanced LED materials and technology that produce more light while maintaining efficiency and reliability. In many ways, Taiwan is a leader in the LED industry, since it consistently places at the top of global rankings for LED component output value, while continuing to introduce leading-edge technological advancements.

Many of these advancements are making LED lighting even more multifunctional. Nowadays it is used to create various atmospheres and ambiances. Products like wall wash lights, spotlights, track lights, display lighting, and decorative lighting, among others, offer an enormous array of color possibilities as well as continuous-color-fading and sensor-responsive-color-changing capabilities. More importantly, LED lighting providers  in Taiwan  have become increasingly price-competitive and performance enhanced.

Take Nan Ya Photonics Incorporation (NYPI), for example. Since its founding in 2003, NYPI has excelled in integrating its resources in operations, production R&D, planning, and promotion. And with an expansion of the entire product supply chain, the industrial synergy it has achieved is guaranteed to deliver a comprehensive range of products and services to customers.

This year, NYPI is aiming to innovate in high-value applications, especially in three specific fields: industrial lighting, hazardous location lighting, and healthcare-facilities lighting.

Industrial facilities, such as oil refining factories, warehouses, heavy industry factories, clean-room, parking areas, loading docks, hospital, ship & boat, and so on, present the unique challenge of providing sufficient illumination to work places from lights mounted at various heights and in the different environments found in various industries. In particular, these environments may contain fumes, oil vapors, dust, and moisture, all of which tend to impair the performance of a lighting system. To address this, NYPI focuses on safety, steady, energy efficiency, and especially maintained illumination efficiency in all of its industrial-lighting products.

Next, because NYPI operates as a subsidiary of Formosa Plastics Group (FPG), which has business interests ranging from oil refining, petrochemicals, plastic raw materials, fiber and textile, electronic materials, machinery, transportation, among others, NYPI is uniquely positioned to best understand the optimal application of LED luminaires not only in different industries, but particularly in hazardous location lighting.

Potentially hazardous locations have a high risk of explosion due to mixtures of gas/air, vapor/air, dust/air, or other flammable combinations. In these areas, it is a necessity to eliminate sources of ignition, such as sparks, hot surfaces, or static electricity, which may ignite these mixtures. NYPI offers clients explosion-proof lights for virtually all applications, from 3 meters to 10 meters height hazardous location lights, non-sparking lights and emergency lighting. In addition to providing standard and customized products that are suitable for potentially explosive atmospheres, NYPI can also act as a high-quality partner to deliver complete customized solutions in the field of explosion-protected-lighting technology. NYPI's dedicated team offers planning and project management, and it can manufacture tailor-made lighting and customized lighting systems, as well as complex emergency-lighting systems, all while providing comprehensive service.

NYPI is also dedicated to focusing on healthcare-facilities lighting. Today, many hospital and healthcare facilities are discovering the benefits of retrofitting their outdated lighting systems. This should come as no surprise, since the right lighting can help medical practitioners when they need it most while also contributing to the well-being of patients, all while reducing energy use and maintenance costs. Various studies have shown how innovative lighting designs and advanced smart technologies, including LEDs, lights sensors, and PIR sensors, can help patients and seniors in hospitals and long-term-care facilities maintain independence and be more comfortable.

In cooperation with Taiwan's Chang Gung Memorial Hospital Dementia Center, NYPI's team has installed LED smart light systems in this center to simulate daylight, in order to help treat the symptoms of dementia. This unique research-based lighting system is expected to alleviate anxiety, lift the moods of both patients and staff members, support healthy sleep, and improve the patient experience in the center.
