Mercedes-Benz recently unveiled its mid-cycle refresh for the C-Class sedan, marking what the automaker calls the most significant technical upgrade in the model’s 44-year history, with advanced lighting technology taking center stage.

For the first time, the refreshed C-Class features an illuminated radiator grille—previously reserved for the S-Class—alongside star-shaped taillight graphics. The headlights have been upgraded to the Digital Light system, with high-tier trims featuring Micro LED technology.

Compared to traditional LED solutions, the Micro LED system expands illumination coverage by approximately 40%, enhances beam control precision, and reduces night-time energy consumption by around 50% relative to the previous generation.

Micro LED is rapidly emerging as a mainstream technological pathway for intelligent automotive lighting. By integrating micron-scale light-emitting chips directly into the headlight module, Micro LED offers higher brightness, lower power consumption, faster response times, and pixel-level control across tens of thousands of individual zones. Thanks to this high-resolution capability, the headlights can precisely mask out areas corresponding to oncoming traffic, preventing glare while maintaining full high-beam illumination.

According to TrendForce’s “2026 Global Automotive LED Market Trend- Lighting & Display Products” report, Micro LED headlights have already been adopted by brands including Volkswagen, Porsche, SAIC Volkswagen, NIO, Opel, Audi, Zeekr, and Mercedes-Benz, etc.

Within Mercedes-Benz, the deployment of Micro LED Digital Light systems is cascading from flagship vehicles down to upper-midrange product lines. The technology is currently featured in models including the updated GLE, the refreshed S-Class sedan, the all-electric VLE MPV, and the electric GLC SUV.

The adoption of Micro LED headlamps in Mercedes-Benz vehicles from flagship models to mid- and high-end models signals that Micro LED automotive lighting is accelerating its transition from proof-of-concept validation to high-volume commercial production.

Orders for the updated C-Class opened in Europe on August 18, with the C 200 sedan starting at EUR 48,844. Localized production and launch for the Chinese market are scheduled for the first half of 2027.
