Future Lighting Solutions Launches the Usable Light Tool (ULT) Version 2.4 for UV and Horticultural Applications

Future Lighting Solutions, the world-class leader and innovator in demand creation, marketing and distribution of solid-state lighting technologies, announces the inclusion of non-visible LEDs and horticultural LEDs to its Usable Light Tool (ULT). Available free of charge to engineers worldwide, the ULT enables lighting designers to simulate usable light from LEDs, allowing the user to make critical LED selection decisions.

The UV and IR markets are expected to grow significantly in the next five years. Customers need to have the ability to simulate non-visible LEDs in the same way as for visible LEDs. The ULT now has the ability to process non-visible LEDs such as UV-A, UV-B, UV-C and IR LEDs along with horticulture LEDs. Different LED vendors publish flux for horticulture LEDs in different units where the 3 options are µmol/s, mW, and lm, which until now, had made it difficult to compare performance between horticulture LED vendors.

“Users can now select LEDs with different flux units where the ULT will automatically convert the flux of the second LED to the unit of the first LED in order to generate an equivalent comparison,” said Patrick Durand, Worldwide Technical Director at Future Lighting Solutions.  “Making sense of µmol/s versus mW is now automatically processed, which will enable our customers to quickly and accurately select the most appropriate LED for meeting their needs,” added Durand.
