Edison Opto Laboratory has become the first in Taiwan to have the certification by TAF, it has been approved by EPA to execute IES LM-80 test for ENERGY STAR® program.
“Since LED lighting luminaires play an important rule as energy saving product in ENERGY STAR® program, TAF has assisted and has certified many third party laboratories as approval laboratories for ENERGY STAR® program.” said Manager Sheng of Taiwan Accreditation Foundation (TAF). Being a LED lighting product manufacturer, Edison Opto is the first corporation in Taiwan to finish TAF certification and become an approval first party of ENERGY STAR® program. It is obvious to say that the quality control and the test technique of Taiwanese LED manufacturer have earned the confidence of ENERGY STAR® program. In the future, the IES LM-80 test reports issued by Edison Opto could be recognized by ENERGY STAR® program and be used on LED luminaires. It will be a huge step to advance Taiwanese LED lighting product, and share the enormous profit with North American market.
According to ENERGY STAR® requirements for solid state light luminaires and LED lamps, the LED package(s)/ module(s)/ array(s) must complete and provide lumen maintenance test report for 6,000 hours by applying IES LM-80 test method. The standard will be executed from 1st April 2012. Since the verification will take 8 to 9 month long, it is estimated that the luminaire companies of North American will purchase the LEDs which have already passed the IES LM-80 verification after the requirement being enforced. Other worldwide companies, such as Philips, Osram or GE lighting, have already prepared and have the capability to perform the quality products. Being the high power LED leading manufacturer company in Taiwan, Edison Opto is also moving forward to enter this supply chain and look ahead to the North American market.
LED luminaires and components are now facing a price/cost battle. If a LED product wants to stand out in this market and sale with a profitable price, international certifications will be the key to decide its market share in Europe and North America. For Edison Opto, to acquire the international approval is one of the many steps in response to the LDMS company strategy and to obtain the ascendancy as well.
