LG Innotek reported that its new full lineup of horticulture LEDs will venture into the global market. With 30 different types of horticulture LEDs, LG Innoteck develops various light sources to enhance the growing condition of plants.
The Horticulture LEDs of LG Innotek covers visible light LEDs and UV LEDs. By using a particular wavelength, the nutrient content of crops can increase. Also, the products are designed based on the knowledge of the plants’ physiological characteristics so that the light wavelength generates different effects on photosynthesis and the flowering of plants. For example, a 380nm wavelength UV-A LED can be used to enhance the phytochemical content of antioxidants such as anthocyanin and lutein, and the 405nm wavelength LEDs that emit purple light can thicken the leaves of the plant and make the color sharper.

The products, according to LG Innotek, can boost productivity in smart greenhouses and plant factories, as its dark red light 660nm wavelength LEDs can promote photosynthesis despite the effects created by the environment to shorten the growth period of plants. Moreover, the company also developed one LED with a wavelength to drive away pests and another that can suppress mold development. These functions will benefit eco-friendly organic farming.
LG Innotek plans to expand the products to lighting and module companies in Europe, North American and Asia and to speed up its market penetration with its broad product lineup and unique technology.
"LEDs are attracting attention as the most effective light source for cultivating crops with uniform quality. With various product line-ups, we will provide the best horticulture LEDs that can satisfy the customers," said June O Song, Vice President of LG Innotek's LED business unit.
