
LEDVANCE, a global leader in lighting solutions, is expanding its partnership with the German football club Bayer 04 Leverkusen. Building on the successful upgrade of the stadium's floodlighting, the club is now relying on LEDVANCE’s expertise across the wider BayArena infrastructure. More than 1,000 spaces – from the Premium Lounge to operational areas – have been upgraded with new, energy-efficient lighting solutions.
As part of a comprehensive modernisation concept, LEDVANCE and its subsidiary loblicht upgraded the BayArena’s interior lighting to the latest technical standards between 2022 and 2026. The challenge was to develop tailored solutions for a wide range of different areas without fundamentally altering the existing building structure.
Tailored lighting for every area
The project covers more than 1,000 rooms and spaces across the stadium. Existing housings and lighting channels were retained and upgraded with customised LED inserts, helping to reduce material use while also improving installation efficiency and future maintenance.
The variety of solutions installed highlights the full range of the LEDVANCE portfolio. In the Premium Lounge and VIP areas, RGB profile systems and LED strips create an exclusive atmosphere. Intelligent DALI lighting control allows the lighting to be adapted flexibly to different event scenarios, while the club’s colours can be showcased through dynamic lighting effects.
In the Bayer 04 Fan World, a carefully designed lighting concept enhances the shopping experience, with tracklights drawing attention to fan merchandise and products. The press area also required a solution that could meet demanding technical requirements. Special LED inserts with microprismatic covers deliver flicker-free light, providing ideal conditions for high-resolution TV broadcasts. This high standard continues throughout the wider stadium infrastructure. From changing rooms and conference rooms to outdoor areas and washrooms, energy-efficient LED solutions have been installed to provide a modern, consistent lighting standard across the entire arena.
Sustainability and brand identity
Alongside lighting quality and technological innovation, energy efficiency and sustainability were central to the partnership. The transition to LED technology significantly reduces energy consumption while also lowering ongoing maintenance requirements. At the same time, it creates a future-ready lighting infrastructure that supports reliable stadium operations for years to come.
