Lighting Korea, a major lighting exhibition in South Korea, is organized by the Korea Institute of Lighting Technology and Korea Lighting and Utensils Association. The 2012 exhibition will take place in the Coex Convention & Exhibition Center beginning October 17, and cover many varieties of lighting related items, including controller chips, modules, and daily lighting appliances. There will also be an opportunity to see intuitive LED designs created by many of South Korea’s Academic Institutions. These designs demonstrate both the theoretical and practical uses of LED, and explore the different ways in which lighting technology can be applied in our daily lives.
The Coex Convention & Exhibition Center, located in Seoul's Gangnam District
The famous Coex Convention & Exhibition Center, where the four day Lighting Korea 2012 exhibition takes place, is located in Gangnam-Gu, a district of Seoul. The event is a part of the larger Power Tech Korea exhibition, which also features the events "Battery & Cell Show" and "EV & Smart Car." Although the scale of "Lighting Korea" 2012 may not measure up to that of a typical global convention, the exhibition nonetheless reflects the many efforts and contributions of Korean manufacturers within the LED industry.
This year, the participating manufacturers in the convention have showcased a number of interesting exhibitions, ranging from the display of components-based, public LED devices to the lighting equipments designed for daily use. The absence of show girls and special price announcers is a demonstration of the serious and practical nature of the exhibition; Lighting Korea is intended for visitors and industry representatives to discuss as well as reflect on new LED technologies without distraction.
Hanyangsemi conductor
In Hanyang Semiconductor's booth, a variety of different COB (Chip on Board) LED devices are shown. The LED lights appear to provide sufficient brightness, and can be applied in both indoor and outdoor equipments. Also worth noting are the "corn" structured COB LEDs, which have shown strong illumination intensity and received a lot of attention within the convention.
Global & Creative Partentship
Global & Creative Partnership showcased a single structured LED street light whose light bulb is integrated with a controller chip. Unlike street lights that separate the bulb and controller chip from one another, this unique structure allows for maintenance-related procedures to be implemented in a more convenient manner. The fact that light bulbs can be changed without cutting off power also helps to save any potential repair costs. The price per watt is approximately under $1 USD, with a single bulb using 4.5 Watts. Up to as many as four bulbs can be used, depending on the need.
DaeYeong Profile
Notable display items from DaeYeong Profile include a bendable LED module board and a variety of lighting products whose brightness can be controlled via bluetooth technology. Within reachable distance, the light intensity and the RGBW colors being displayed can be changed using a smartphone installed with proper software. The software is known to support both the Android and the iOS platform.
Business-purposed LED advertising boards
The business oriented LED advertising boards each utilize a single-system module. The brightness level of each ad display, along with the time settings, is determined by an instructional coding that is written onto an SD card (inserted into the side of the LED boards). With the help of a uniform system, the light settings for large numbers of ad display boards can be adjusted in a time efficient manner.
South Korean Manufacturers Show More Dedication to the Development of LED Plant Lights
The expenses involved in using plant nurturing LED products tend to be comparatively higher in South Korea than in countries such as Japan. Because of this, the practice has yet to become a widely accepted norm within the country. Red and blue lights are generally emitted by these LED products as a means of fostering plant growth. When used at home or in public environments, white light will be added to make product more soothing to the eyes.
The Collaboration between South Korean Universities and the LED Industry
In this years' exhibition, visitors have a chance to see the collaborative efforts between the LED industry and the academic institutions within South Korea. A good number of published dissertations and theoretical papers are available at one of the sections of the convention, each covering a specific LED-related topic.
South Korean Manufacturers Apply Landscape and Architectural Principles to LED Designs
At various points of the Korea Lighting convention, one will be able to find LED product designs from institutions that specialize in home design as well as landscape scenery. Seeing the unrestrained freedom in which these products apply theoretical scenic principles, along with the manner in which practical LED design is integrated, serve as one of the joys of visiting the exhibition. While some of the designs can be directly commercialized, the non-commercial ones can be just as significant in terms of furthering the potential development within the LED industry.
