The Ministry of Culture and Elementary and Secondary Education of the Republic of Indonesia, PT. Taman Wisata Candi Borobudur, Prambanan and Ratu Boko (Persero)[*1], the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) Office in Jakarta, and Panasonic Corporation signed a four-way Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on October 9 to promote "conservation and awareness raising for the protection of UNESCO World Heritage Sites" and "education and cultural activities aimed at sustainable development for young people in the vicinity of the Borobudur, Prambanan, Ratu Boko sites in Indonesia." The signing marked the launch of the following joint projects. 

Power management company Eaton today announced that its Galleon™ light-emitting diode (LED) area luminaires from its Cooper Lighting Divisionhave improved the lighting performance, energy efficiency and reliability at Pioneer Ford, located in Bremen, Georgia. The conversion has resulted in a 61 percent energy usage reduction, while providing brighter and uniform illumination, and reducing the high number of lighting maintenance issues the auto dealership was experiencing.

Lindsay Honda located in Columbus, Ohio, is a new car Honda dealer selling various Honda automotive models, and is home to one of the largest indoor showrooms in the country. Recently, Lindsay Honda partnered with Hawkins Sales of Ohio, and Green Lighting Wholesale, in an effort to seek out a commercial lighting solution that would meet their facility codes while improving illumination, and significantly lowering energy costs. "They wanted the best fixture and technology available on the market at the most cost effective price," commented Brett Clark, President of Green Lighting Wholesale. As a result, the company decided on EverLast® 200 and 300 watt induction shoe box fixtures.

Bright Light Systems, a leading manufacturer of Light Emitting Plasma (LEP) luminaires and wireless lighting controls, has announced the completion of a lighting upgrade project at the Port of Seattle Terminals 90 and 91. These terminals provide mooring for cruise ships as well as commercial workboats and fishing vessels.

The Sistine Chapel in Rome is now illuminated by a novel lighting solution from Osram. After 500 years, this extraordinary piece of art history can now be experienced in unprecedented quality, bathed in the light of more than 7,000 LEDs. The installation that has been put in place over the last few months is designed to protect the artworks while enabling much stronger lighting. At the same time, it will use up to 90 percent less electricity than the previous installation. The European Union supported the project.

In support of energy reduction initiatives underway at the Naval Support Activity Annapolis and the US Naval Academy, Ephesus Lighting Inc., the industry leader in LED lighting for sports facilities, has been selected under two contracts to install energy efficient and high-quality LED lighting at seven outdoor sports complexes, three indoor sports arenas and five additional outdoor locations on Naval Support Activity Annapolis. The announcement was made by Amy Casper, CEO of Ephesus Lighting, and Lieutenant Commander Cristopher Neish, Energy Officer, Public Works Department Annapolis.

Power management company Eaton today announced its Cooper Lighting Division is helping to improve optical performance and efficiencies at the Denver International Airport (DIA). Replacing more than 5,400 parking garage fixtures, the DIA conversation will include almost 5,000 McGraw-Edison™ Valet™ light-emitting diode (LED) luminaires, helping the airport to save approximately US $327,000 annually or US $6.5 million over 20 years. Construction of the multimillion-dollar project began in May 2014 with an anticipated completion date of November 2014.

A brand new £1.2 million (US $1.97 million) tennis center has been opened in Portsmouth and is the first of its kind to benefit from LED lighting, all of which has been provided by Luxonic. Former British number one, Greg Rusedski and council dignitaries opened the complex, which is situated next to the Mountbatten Sports Centre.

The Illinois State Police Department have chosen Raytec’s award-winning VARIO Infra-Red LED Illuminators to provide high performance surveillance lighting for an urban concert park. With large public events regularly taking place in the park, good lighting was required to improve CCTV image quality for ensuring public safety and reducing crime.

Light Festivals are becoming more and more popular in cities around the world. This past weekend, the very charming coastal town of Cascais Portugal, 30 kilometers west of Lisbon, celebrated the third edition of LUMINA- Festival da Luz/Light Festival which also served to commemorate the 650th anniversary of the town. For three colorful nights, Cascais, known for its popular beaches, became the most luminous city in Portugal. From 8pm to midnight, 26 lighting installations by 40 artists were featured along the Path of Light which made its way to 26 public places around the historic centre of Cascais Bay.

Royal Philips, the global leader in lighting, has launched three of Kazakhstan’s most famous architectural landmarks into the global limelight, using connected LED lighting to illuminate the Astana iconic Baiterek Monument and its famous Tulpar and Maral bridges. Connected LED lighting from Philips Color Kinetics perfectly shows off the architectural details of these major sights in the Kazakh capital while slashing energy consumption by 85 percent compared to the previous lighting system.

GE Lighting has prescribed an energy-saving LED solution for Davao Medical School Foundation in The Philippines, bringing the school enhanced illumination across its facilities, greater energy efficiency and significantly reduced maintenance downtime. The Davao Medical School Foundation (DMSF) was established in 1976 in response to the recognition of the lack of doctors serving rural communities and lack of specialists in the urban centers of Mindanao.

The new lighting system addresses the unique needs of the hospital's facilities - including multiple dimming options for nighttime lighting and automatic illumination in hallways and patient rooms when emergency buttons are activated.

DRSA, a supplier of marine LED lighting, has recently secured over 12 major contracts to refit yachts ranging between 100 feet and 175 feet (30.48 to 53.34 meters) with LED lighting.

The facility managers of Terminal One at San Francisco International Airport in California wanted to give the high-volume concourse a modern and forward-thinking look. The terminal, which serves AirTran, Alaska Airlines, Delta, Frontier, Southwest and US Airways, had illumination issues caused by aging four-tube linear fluorescent troffers. The check-in stations were not properly lit and had poor illumination on work surfaces where agents process paperwork. The overall terminal looked dim and muted.

Not to be mistaken for a swimwear company, Bikini Berlin is a culturally protected Grade II listed building in the German capital, whose recent revitalization included the installation of over 1000 energy-efficient LED luminaires from Elation Professional.

Designed by world famous architects Foster + Partners, 200 Gray’s Inn Road was built for ITN in 1990 as its headquarters and broadcasting hub. The iconic building, owned by The Great Ropemaker Partnership, now provides high quality offices and TV studio accommodation for multiple tenants including ITN, ITV and Channel 4, broadcasting almost constantly throughout the year.

UK technological engineers Asylum were approached with a private commission, requiring a domestic installation a pipe covered in crystals that lit up to decorate a construction feature within a room. A base structure was fabricated for fitting the electronics onto. The RGB LED modules were made up of three individual colored lights and could give a range of over 16 million colors. 

Royal Philips, the global leader in lighting, has provided state-of- the-art LED pitch lighting for Chelsea Football Club. Stamford Bridge is the first stadium for a top flight football club equipped with this pioneering lighting system, which will ensure that the stadium continues to be one of the most famous sporting arenas in the world. 

The Board of Directors of Rancho Santiago Community College District unanimously approved the use of Redbird LED for their interior LED lighting retrofit project with the use of Prop 39 funding.  The conversion to LED lighting will save the district over US $2 million throughout the life of the product.  In addition, Southern California Edison (SCE) will provide the district over US $300,000 in rebates. The project was completed on August 1, 2014.

UNStudio’s design for the Hanwha’s headquarter building incorporates the renovation and remodeling of the facade, the interior of the common spaces, lobbies, meeting levels, auditorium and executive areas, along with the redesign of the landscaping. Several important variables were required to be incorporated into the redesign, most essentially the surroundings, nature and the environment. UNStudio’s concept for the project resulted in the design of a responsive facade which prioritizes and integrates groups of key parameters: program (exterior and interior), indoor climate and environmental considerations.

When Boston University went in search of a lighting upgrade for its Track and Tennis Center, it set its sights high—literally. Seeking to improve light levels and reduce energy as part of its ongoing energy-efficiency initiatives, the University’s Building Automation Services team knew they needed a high bay LED lighting solution.
