The newly designed intermediate storey of the Marienplatz subway and metro station in Munich, Germany was inaugurated this Monday. The concept drawn up by the architects Allmann Sattler Wappner and the lighting designer Ingo Maurer gives the subterranean mezzanine a bright, clearly arranged and customer-friendly appearance following a construction period of three and a half years. Up to 200,000 passengers enter this traffic node daily, following modernisation by the Munich municipal authorities (SWM) and the Munich transport company (MVG). An essential element of the design is the orange-red light ceiling installed in the central ticket hall, where more than 1,000 Osram light lines have been installed for illumination.

Power management company Eaton today announced it’s helping to improve optical performance and energy efficiency at the Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) Central Terminal Area (CTA). As part of the first and second phases of the $118-million LAX Curbside Appeal and Roadway Improvement Project, Eaton played a pivotal role in revamping the exterior curbside lighting using its light-emitting diode (LED) technology with each new street lighting pole consuming 48 percent less energy than the previous 33-year-old, high-pressure sodium lights they replaced.

FC Bayern Munich is kicking off the new season in spectacular style: Philips, the global leader in lighting, and the German soccer champions presented a new LED façade lighting at the Allianz Arena for the first time on Wednesday. The entire innovative Philips system can be controlled digitally and is capable of reproducing 16 million colors. This makes Allianz Arena, the 'Star of the South', Europe's largest and Germany's first stadium to feature a dynamic lighting moods across its entire facade. More than 300,000 LED lights – over an impressive surface area of 26,000 square meters − make the stadium façade’s inflatable outer membrane shine brilliantly. Compared to the previous system, the new technology saves more than 60 percent on electricity and approximately 362 tons of CO2 per year.

Kyocera Corporation and Kyocera Solar, Inc. announced today that Kyocera is completing Brazil’s largest highway solar-lighting project on the Arco Metropolitano do Rio de Janeiro, a highway project connecting the five main highways crossing Rio de Janeiro. Slightly more than half of the 145-kilometer highway will be lit at night by stand-alone solar streetlights powered by Kyocera solar modules, installed by Soter over the last two years with funding from the Rio de Janeiro State Government.
