E-J Electric Installation Co. (E-J Electric) announced their participation in the construction of phase one of the new Kosciuszko Bridge. The new bridge, a 1.1-mile segment above the industrial Newtown Creek on the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway, is the first major New York City bridge to open in more than 50 years. The bridge officially opened to traffic with a colorful LED light show designed by E-J Electric.

New York City's newest large-format LED video spectacular will be the highest-resolution LED screen in the storied history of Times Square.

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo announced on Sunday the first span of the new Kosciuszko Bridge will open to drivers between Brooklyn and Queens on Thursday, April 27.

The artist Bardula was asked by Parisian interior designers Gilles & Boissier to create a monumental kinetic light installation in the entrance of Moncler new flagship store at 650 Madison Avenue, at 59th Street, Manhattan, opened in October 2016.

The Town of Hempstead, N.Y., the largest township in the country, is making the switch to LED technology with the conversion of more than 50,000 high-pressure sodium fixtures to LED street lights from Cree. The installation is already underway with future phases planned to bring LED lighting to the town’s municipal buildings, parks and marinas. The street light project delivers an anticipated two and a half-year payback with nearly $3 million in annual energy savings and US $57 million in total lifetime savings.

Sony Corporation of America announced the opening of Sony Square NYC, a showplace for the latest in Sony entertainment and technology. Located in the Company's New York City headquarters at 25 Madison Avenue, the facility offers visitors the chance to check out select new Sony technologies and products, some of which are still in the prototype stage. Additionally, the intimate space will be used for unique consumer events, such as photography classes with world-renowned photographers, exclusive movie screenings and invitation-only performances by Sony Music artists.

The New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) and the New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) announced that a section of Central Avenue in Colonie, Albany County, will get new LED street lights to enhance visibility and safety, as well as reduce energy costs.

City of Binghamton Mayor Richard David, announced the annual environmental impact benefits of converting the 7,000 streetlights in the U.S. city to LED technology.

Started from last week, New York’s night skies were lit by up to 2,000 pigeons flew with LEDs strapped to their legs. The performance held in Brooklyn Navy Yard, named “Fly by Night”, was launched by artist Duke Riley. The massive flock followed the artist’s whistle, circled in the sky for 30 minutes over the deck of a decommissioned U.S. Navy ship.

Soraa, the world leader in the development of advanced lighting products and gallium nitride on gallium nitride (GaN on GaN™) LED technology, announced it will open a new semiconductor fabrication plant in Syracuse, New York. In partnership with the State of New York, the company will construct a new state-of-the-art GaN on GaN™ LED fabrication facility that will employ hundreds of workers. Working in coordination with SUNY College of Nanoscale Science and Engineering (SUNY Poly CNSE), the new facility is on pace for shell completion by the end of this year with production beginning in the second half of 2016. Soraa currently operates an LED fabrication plant in Fremont, California, one of only a few in the U.S.

The Walker Tower is close to Ground Zero in New York and was damaged during the 9/11 attacks in 2001. It was later converted from office space to a high-end apartment building. The Art Deco façade and spires have now been illuminated with ERCO projectors, without any spill light to detract from the view of the skyline.

Global LED streetlight installments have often been the center of controversy, even though the streetlights are capable of cutting energy consumption costs. Citizens exposed to the new LED streetlights have often complained the lights were too bright, or in certain cases ruining scenarios. New Yorkers have been the latest to complain about the glare and uncomfortable lighting emitted from LEDs.

In 2015, Pegasus Capital Advisors committed to catalyzing healthier working conditions and improved air quality in New York City’s nail salons. An issue largely overlooked, nail polish contains many volatile organic compounds which permeate the air and are health hazards for workers and customers alike. Pegasus and its partner, Lighting Science Group (LSG), have developed the Genesis Light, a desktop light that monitors and reports on air quality wirelessly using a sensor chip embedded in the lamp. It uses easy to read emoticons on the units, as well as transmits data that will be accessible online. Empowering salon workers and customers, Pegasus, LSG, and partner the NYC Public Advocate will deploy 50 free Genesis Lights to nail salons that they identify in hopes that the pilot program will inspire customers and regulators to make informed decisions that will ultimately incentivize a continuing domino effect in nail salons to better manage their air quality.

Royal Philips, the global leader in lighting, today announced it would be working with the New York State Thruway Authority and Tappan Zee Constructors, LLC to install a state-of-the-art connected LED lighting system on the New NY Bridge to replace the Tappan Zee across the Hudson River. ​The National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) today praised New York Governor Cuomo for signing into law the Dark Skies bill, which establishes requirements for outdoor lighting applications installed by state agencies. Specifically, the bill requires the use of properly shielded light fixtures to prevent unnecessary up- and side-lighting, thereby reducing sky glow. The bill also limits lighting to only recommended levels for particular applications.     

Governor Andrew M. Cuomo announced awards of $4.3 million for 17 projects dedicated to reducing the environmental impact of transportation in New York State. These projects are in line with the governor’s energy vision to increase support for new and innovative clean energy technologies that help reduce dependence on fossil fuels, reduce pollution and promote a cleaner and healthier environment while supporting the growth of the economy.

Urban Matter Inc. has just completed installing noise interactive LED lights on the Brooklyn Queens Expressway pedestrian pathway. The lights are lit up by the New York City Department of Transportation and the Myrtle Avenue Brooklyn Partnership switched on the lights, a new public art installation located underneath the expressway, according to an Inhabitant report.

Streetlights in the Big Apple are getting a major makeover to more energy efficient LEDs, according to Wall Street Journal (WSJ) and Newsday news reports. New York will be replacing 250,000 street lights with LED lamps by 2017, said the city mayor Michael Bloomberg. The LED replacements are expected to help the city cut US$ 14 million in electric and maintenance costs.

Syracuse, N.Y. -- The addition of LED lights along the New York State Thruway and Canal system should cut electric costs by 20 percent, Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced. The New York State Public Service Commission has approved a new lower-priced tariff option for Central Hudson Gas & Electric that would encourage municipalities to install LED-based street lights. Most street lights are not metered for actual power usage. The new tariff would allow the utility to correctly calculate the energy used by LED street lights and a municipality to pay a lower price for energy used for lighting.
