In line with recent reports, Township officials have proposed new restrictions on lightemitting diode (LED) signs, which they say can serve as dangerous distractions to local drivers. In Vestal, a part of New York's the Greater Binghamton area, the 2009 town board discussed the issue at length, creating a law that would put strict regulations on the use of LED signs.
A public hearing on the proposed law will take place at the regularly scheduled town board meeting.Several area businesses have requested a variance to use LED signs. Only one -- Horizons Federal Credit Union at Campus Plaza -- has one.

In Fargo, North Dakota, U.S., the city commission voted 5-0 last week to put an immediate moratorium on LED signs on the premises of business properties.
The sign moratorium was sought by the Hawthorne Neighborhood Association. The neighborhood group has been against plans by Steven Stremick of Select Financial to put a cube-shaped light-emitting-diode sign at the corner of 13th Avenue South and University Drive.
