The Brecon Beacons National Park, one of the three national parks in Wales, UK, has earned special protection of its night sky from light pollution and is an ideal place for stargazing. However, for the sake of safety, the Welsh Government recently installed LED street lights in Cwmdu, Powys, leaving a campaign group concerned. 

The 2017 Taiwan International Lighting Show (TILS) and LED Taiwan 2017 were held in Taipei, Taiwan from April 12 to 15. Under the theme “Smart Design and Innovative Applications”, the exhibitions showcased state-of-the-art lighting products that are designed to improve people’s quality of life. The future of Prairie Village, a city in Johnson County, Kansas, may look even brighter later this year. The Prairie Village City Council recently approved the plan to purchase 1,736 new LED street lights from Philips Lighting that will be installed citywide.

Philips Lighting has announced a connected LED street lighting project with a difference. The lighting company will equip the picturesque island of Ameland, in the Netherlands, with energy efficient LED street lighting and Philips ClearSky, a light spectrum specially designed to be friendly to migrating birds.

The TALQ Consortium, developers of the global standard interface for smart outdoor lighting networks, have just released the formal beta version of the entire TALQ Test Suite for its members. With this test tool companies can now start testing their smart lighting solutions for multi-vendor interoperability. 

With the merit of energy efficiency, better visibility and low carbon emissions, LED street lights have been embraced by cities around the world, and the shift toward them has accelerated. However, this does not come without a price. More and more instances of light pollution and light nuisance have been reported, causing much criticism from citizens.

A new wave of LED street lights installation has started across India. According to local media, North Delhi Municipal Corporation has decided to replace over two lakh (200,000) traditional streetlights with LED lighting across its six zones. There are around 250,000 streetlights in these areas, including park lights and semi High-mast lighting.

The largest single investment to modernize main road street lighting in the Capital's history has been unveiled by the Mayor and Transport for London (TfL).
