Digital Lumens, the market leader in intelligent LED lighting systems, together with its German partner SchahlLED Lighting, today announced it has equipped international transportation and logistics service provider GEODIS with an intelligent LED lighting system. Deployed at GEODIS' Asset Recovery Center location in Nieder-Olm, the project has enabled GEODIS to decrease power consumption and reduce the cost of lighting by 70,000 EUR in the first year while improving employee safety and productivity with high quality lights and LightRules software platform for seamless system management and configuration.
GEODIS offers technical services alongside the entire product lifecycle for IT equipment. High quality lighting conditions play an important role at the company’s Asset Recovery Center in Nieder-Olm, where GEODIS processes repair and recycling of customer equipment. By installing the intelligent LED system from Digital Lumens, GEODIS has proven to be a leader in the area of innovative lighting in contract logistics and has reinforced its ecological leading role by means of sustainable management of industrial sites. In fact, GEODIS’ Nieder-Olm site was distinguished by Germany’s Secretary of the Environment Barbara Hendricks as a model company in promoting sustainability programs with disposal of old IT equipment.
"We were searching for a reliable, intelligently-controlled LED lighting technology that would offer our employees optimal visual conditions for a safe and productive environment to process technical devices, while simultaneously lowering the costs of lighting and its maintenance," said Sven Kircher, manager of Central Purchasing, Northern Europe, as he described the company's motivation. “The launching pad for the economic efficiency calculation was a three-year-old building in the Nieder-Olm location with standard T5 lighting. From our point of view, Digital Lumens' technology transforms the markets of illumination and building intelligence.”
"Digital Lumens' LEDs with LightRules software system for automatic configuration delivers optimal light based on time of day and harvests existing daylight, which allows us to achieve a return on investment in just four and a half years," explained Nicolas von Wilcke, manager of the independent LED consulting firm Nexplan GmbH, who led the support for the project. As a comparison, a continuously turned on standard LED solution would take more than six years to yield an ROI.
To achieve these results, GEODIS worked with LED specialist SchahlLED Lighting GmbH to deploy the Intelligent Lighting System from Digital Lumens. The system includes networks of intelligent LED fixtures with integrated controls combined with the LightRules software system that maximizes energy savings, improves productivity and safety of employees, and provides insight into facility operations. For maximizing energy savings at the GEODIS location in Nieder-Olm, the lighting intensity varies between 80 percent and 20 percent based on movement patterns in the site. By dimming the facility when employees are not present, the lifespan of the lights is extended approximately four-fold, from 66,000 hours to more than 260,000 hours, or 30-40 years along with savings of up to 90 percent of lighting-related energy costs.
