Nike Opens the World’s First LED Running Track in Manila

Nike continues to bring running to a new level, this time with the world’s first LED running track. Built by BBH Singapore, a global advertising agency, the “Unlimited Stadium” is a giant reimagined pop-up arena taking over an entire city block in Manila, Philippines.

The arena takes the shape of a 100-meter sole print of the Nike’s newly launched footwear Lunar Epic. It features a 200-meter running track lined with a continuous wall of LED panels, where up to 30 runners at any given time can race against their digital selves.

Each runner is tracked on a Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) sensor attached to one’s sneaker. After the initial lap, an “avatar” of the runner will appear on the LED screens and runs at the person’s previous lap time. If runners beat their previous records, the virtual pacers will keep pace with them, motivating runners to keep challenging themselves.

The dazzling track was specifically designed to celebrate the release of the Lunar Epic. It is not clear how long the installation will remain open.
