Toshiba America Electronic Components, Inc. (TAEC) has released on Wednesday two new highly-efficient white LED drivers, TB62730WLG and TB62750FTG, both of which designed to drive white LEDs for backlight use in LCDs.
The two LED drivers were among several products Toshiba launched yesterday for expanding its Mobile Strategic Initiative, a product and customer support program aimed to facilitate ease of design for new mobile phones and other portable devices.
The new LED drivers are suitable to drive LEDs in applications such as LED camera flashes and strobes or for backlighting in cellular phones, personal digital assistants (PDA), digital still cameras (DSC) and other mobile products.
The two drivers, TB62730WLG and TB62750FTG, both feature operating efficiency of 80% in flash mode under a supply voltage ranging from 2.8V to 5.5V, with only one external inductor needed to keep the current flow constant even under falling battery voltages. A soft-start function is featured by both devices to prevent power overshoots when switching between shutdown mode and flash/light mode. The devices are also equipped with over-voltage protection and a temperature shutdown function to protect both the LED drivers and the display from error conditions. Additionally, the TB62750FTG has one additional integrated constant current driver for a red LED light.
TB62750 comes in a surface mounted, 24-pinVQON24 package while TB62730 comes in a cutting-edge surface mounted 16-pin WLCSP package which is sized less than 2mm x 2mm. Both products are currently in sampling and are available at $1.00 each in 10,000 unit quantities, with the mass production dates for both products depending upon demand in the market.
