The city of Victoria partnered with Chevron Energy Solutions to install LED lights, put many little lights clustered together, in 85 of its traffic lights, including an energy management system, thermostats and control sensors at the library. The total cost of the project was $600,000 and was completely covered by a federal grant. It will save will save $750,000 in 10 years.
Garza, the city's director of communications, said that the savings realized from the project will put money back in the general fund that may go toward police, the fire department or the maintenance of public streets.
The project was completed from March to October 2010.
