Harvard Engineering Extending Warranty on Xicato LED Drivers

Xicato announced that Harvard Engineering will now offer extended 5 year warranties on its LED drivers used with Xicato based luminaries that are thermally validated by Xicato. Luminaire Thermal Validation is a complimentary program offered to Xicato’s customers. Validated luminaires already receive the industry’s only 5-year color consistency and lumen maintenance warranty from Xicato and backed by Munich Re. This system approach and validation program that features a driver warranty matched to the Xicato module increases confidence in quality and long term reliability of the entire solution.

“As our customers transition from conventional systems to solid state lighting solutions we are listening carefully to their concerns and working with partners around the world to bring as much confidence to the market as possible,” said John Yriberri, VP Worldwide Applications for Xicato.

“The relationship between heat, the light source and the driver is an important part of system reliability. Working closely with Harvard we have extended the value of Xicato’s thermal validation to provide additional warranty coverage for our customers.”

“Choosing the right driver is a critical engineering decision and validating that decision with Xicato’s thermal validation program makes complete sense. We have a long standing working relationship with Xicato and we are delighted to be building on this by offering an extended 5 year warranty,” said Rasib Khan, engineering director, at Harvard Engineering. “Those luminaires that receive thermal validation have demonstrated the value of good engineering and that extends to how the driver is incorporated as well.”

The luminaire thermal validation process utilizes precision measurement equipment and thermal chambers designed by Xicato to control the ambient environment and ensure that module specifications for temperature are maintained below the maximum value even in worst case scenarios. Luminaire manufacturers, specifiers and designers can view Xicato’s video showing the complete testing process.

Today, hundreds of luminaire variations from manufacturers have received thermal validation from Xicato. In February 2013, Xicato introduced its color consistency and lumen maintenance warranty as a natural outgrowth of the thermal validation program. The warranty – an industry first – is underwritten by Munich Reinsurance Co. based on their evaluation of Xicato’s Corrected Cold Phosphor Technology®, product qualification, manufacturing processes and proven field reliability. In October, Xicato introduced an LM-79 testing program that provides luminaire manufacturers with faster, lower cost testing that further builds customer confidence and acceptance of solid-state lighting solutions.
