Philips Stars Price War with the Introduction of New LED Bulbs at Lower Price in Taiwan

Philips announced on July 15 that it has issued a series of new-generation LED bulbs in Taiwan, its 7 watt LED bulb is priced at 399 Yuan, compared with 6 watt LED bulbs Philips introduced last year at the price of 499 Yuan, the entry-price in this year dropped by 20%.

In order to compete with the current mainstream 8 watt LED bulbs in convenience stores, the price of Philips' latest 8 watts LED bulbs decreased by as much as 33.39%, compared with Taiwan's two major brands, it has zero spreads from the price of Delta, 7-11 dual-brands, and it shows price difference of only 50 Yuan from Everlight.

Philips actively develops LED lighting; it has entered into the general lighting from commercial, architectural lighting. Philips introduced four specifications in Taiwan this year one time, including 7 watt, 8 watt, 10 watt, 13 watt LED bulbs, priced at 399 Yuan, 399 Yuan, 499 Yuan, 599 Yuan respectively, in view of the same price of 8-watt LED bulbs last year, it was 599 Yuan last year, but it is 399 Yuan this year, that is, the decline is as high as 33.39%.

Compared to the layout Philips conducted in LED lighting last year, Philips is more positive towards prices and new products. Last year, Philips introduced 6-watt LED bulbs at 499 Yuan, 8 watts at 599 Yuan, as well as its award-winning LED bulb "Queen of the Stars" in the general lighting market. So the industry believes that Philips' energy-saving bulbs will still dominate the general lighting market, but also make money, so in the past, it just tested the water temperature of the LED general lighting market.

But this year, Philips has been different, it introduced intelligent lighting group HUE in the high-priced market in the first half of this year the LED bulbs, now it launched four models at the same price with local brands, and turned to aggressive pricing strategy. Although this action of Philips makes the competition among the local brands to be more intense, also means that, the era that LED bulbs become the mainstream of general lighting has come.
