IntenCity Lighting’s Retrofit LED Parking Garage Lighting Receives DLC Certification

Metro LED Lighting is marketing a new LED lighting fixture for commercial parking garages that is now DesignLights Consortium (DLC) qualified. The GL-40SV, from IntenCity Lighting, is designed for effective lighting, with low glare, and high efficiency to lower electric costs. It is engineered as a one-to-one replacement for High Intensity Discharge (HID) fixtures and fluorescent garage lights. As a DLC listed parking garage light, this LED fixture has undergone testing to assure compliance with the latest outdoor lighting standards. The GL-40SV Parking Garage Light requires no periodic maintenance, re-lamping or ballast changes required of fluorescent garage lighting or HID fixtures.

The DLC has rigorous requirements for LED fixtures to enter Qualified Products List. The GL-40SV has met these stringent requirements. The benefit from this DLC testing, to the parking facility owner is that the light has been certified by independent testing lab. Utilities require LED lighting to be DLC listed for the various rebate programs and the GL-40SV now qualifies for these rebates.

"The lighting has been designed and engineered for the rough, demanding conditions found in parking garages and is highly energy efficient,” said Michael Bruck, President of IntenCity Lighting. "This fixture provides highly symmetrical lighting patterns that are ideal for replacing existing HID or fluorescent garage lighting fixtures, while reducing energy costs often by 60% or more."

Typical LED garage lights commonly have undesirable glare. The GL-40SV is engineered with high efficiency lighting class LED, recessed into the fixture to reduce glare, as well as being angled to focus the light onto the drive aisles and parking spaces where it is most needed, and driver's eyes. The 4,500 lumen, LED fixture at 55 watts, provides uniform lighting over large areas. In typical garage lighting designs, this LED fixture will lower contrast ratios (shadowing), and provide effective lighting, upgrading the quality of lighting in the parking garage.

The GL-40SV Parking Garage Light is fully compatible with lighting controls, and is equipped with LED drivers compatible with 0V to 10V lighting management systems. With this capability, dimming, daylight harvesting, or other lighting controls can be implemented. The Department of Energy has shown very large energy savings of 88% were achieved in a Gateway Demonstration Project, when LED lighting controls are used in parking garage lighting (See the DOE Report in PDF: http://apps1.eere.energy.gov/buildings/publications/pdfs/ssl/deptoflabor_brief.pdf)

"Garage lighting is a demanding application, requiring fixtures that can withstand the vibration of the parking structure, and wide temperature swings of outdoor lighting," said Thomas Fake, President of Metro LED Lighting. "The GL-40SV is very rugged, and uses highly effective heat sinks to prolong the life of the LED fixture. It is also very effective in lighting a parking garage... Adding lighting controls to the LED garage fixtures enables parking facility owners to achieve rapid paybacks, high ROI, and much lower ongoing operating costs. With the GL-40SV being DLC listed, and by obtaining rebates for our customers, will make replacing existing parking garage lighting even more compelling. "
