Benefiting from Apple iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus sales, Taiwanese sapphire manufacturer Tera Xtal’s revenue for September 2014 increased 38 percent compared to August. The company set a new monthly record last month, with order visibility extending well into late 2014.
Sapphire substrate’s optic applications have been expanded from iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus fingerprint recognition buttons and camera lenses to Apple Watch glass covers. Industry insiders’ project sapphire will also be applied in iPad and iPad Mini in the near future. In the Android smartphone camp, Huawei’s Ascend P7 and Kyocera’s Brigadier have been pioneers in applying sapphire glass covers. Other smartphone brands and wearable devices are also following this trend. Sapphire material has no doubt, become a hot material.
Tera Xtel has been one of the earliest manufacturers in the sapphire industry to invest in consumer electronic applications, and possesses many key patents and technology. As consumer electronic applications gradually mature, Tera Xtel will not be affected by LED’s conventional low season in 4Q14, instead optical applications will drive the company’s shipment momentum. Order visibility extends well towards the end of 2014. Shipment volumes from October to December will maintain high levels as seen in September 2014. The company’s revenue for fourth quarter is estimated to be higher than third quarter.
