Taiwanese LED Backlight Expert UPEC Quits Package Manufacturing

Due to aggressive market competition in the LED backlighting market, Taiwanese LED manufacturer UPEC Electronics announced termination of its LED backlight package manufacturing business recently, according to a UDN Evening News report.

The company that specializes in LED backlight packaging, decided to exit the manufacturing business and outsource LED backlight package manufacturing. UPEC Electronics is transforming its business model.

Overt market competition in the LED backlight package market caused price plunges, leading to decreased profitabilities to the point that it no longer meets production efficiency, said the company spokesman Cheng Yi-Ching. Therefore, the company will terminate all LED backlight package production lines in May 2014.

UPEC Electronics could use its LED design advantages to upgrade its product portfolio, secure lighting clients, and strengthen OEM supply chain operations.
