Flash LED Revenue to Reach US $764 Million by 2018, says LEDinside

With display screens in mobile phones and camera module pixels increasing, demand for brighter flash LED has grown. Global flash LED shipment volume reached 1.03 billion units in 2013, according to a report by LEDinside. It is anticipated that shipment volume will grow to 2.07 billion units by 2018. Revenue for flash LED in 2013 hit US $561 million and is anticipated to reach US $764 million in 2018.

Conventional mobile phone application field mainly includes display and keyboard backlighting. Over the years however, smartphone shipment proportions have grown substantially and market scale has likewise expanded. Consumer demands for additional smartphone functions have also seen an upturn, with consumers demanding larger screen size, higher resolution, and camera modules with higher pixel count. To meet this demand, additional LEDs are required in order to boost backlight module brightness as well as brighter flash LED. Some smartphone manufacturers even incorporate dual flash LEDs.

Additional features of new smartphone models also incorporate LEDs, including remote control, heart monitor, and environment sensing system. It is clear that LED application in smartphone products is expanding.
