Indian City Revokes LED Streetlight Plan

News Source:

India’s Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) has called off a LED streetlight plan approved 19 months ago, according to a report by The Times of India.

The municipal is reconsidering the plan due to controversies in the tender process initiated by the committee since January 2013.

Up to 60,541 streetlights across the municipal corporation were to be replaced with new LED lights and installed by a private company on Build, Operate and Transfer (BOT) basis. The company from Hyderabad was awarded the contract and under tender regulations was expected to complete the work within three months in 2013.

Only 200 LED streetlights were delivered by the company. Members of the standing committee demanded to cancel the current contract, and to restart the tendering process.
