Wembley Stadium in London, was transformed into a National Football League venue for the third straight season on Oct. 25 for the NFL International Series game. For three seasons, Daktronics Inc. of Brookings, S.D. has worked with the NFL in a rental agreement that includes the setup and tear down of a mobile and modular integrated light emitting diode (LED) video and scoring system to help create an NFL experience within the United Kingdom’s most renowned soccer stadium.
The rental agreement with the NFL for the game includes two ribbon displays arranged three feet high by 40 feet wide (0.9 meters high by 12 meters wide) on the fascia of the stadium. The ribbon displays, capable of colorful animation and vivid graphics with incredible brightness and wide angle visibility, show game-in-progress, play clock and sponsor information throughout the game. In addition, two LED game clocks were placed at the center points of the stadium.
The ribbon displays utilize PST-12HD video technology, a thin, lightweight panel design that allows for easy transport and storage. The lightest outdoor display panel of its kind, the PST-12 HD uses an innovative staggered pixel layout to produce more brightness using less LEDs—making it a cost-effective, high-performance outdoor display solution perfect for concerts, festivals and athletic events of all shapes and sizes.
Daktronics also provides event support for ribbon displays, working seamlessly with NFL approved clock operators to display real-time data and game-in-progress information. Daktronics control system was also used to overlay statistical information onto the stadium’s existing main video displays.
