The Enfis Group Plc (LSE: ENF), an innovator of LED lighting systems and technologies, released "The Elimination of Binning with Enhanced CCT Control," a new white paper that discusses how by utilizing a multi-channel approach and smart electronics, the color temperature of an LED array can be tuned across the whole white light locus, even into the very warm white region, below 2800K with high color quality (Ra > 90). The paper can be downloaded free of charge at www.enfis.com.
Most phosphor-based, high-power white LEDs on the market today show significant color variations from one white LED to another. In side-by-side applications, such as wall washers, cove lights or other LED luminaire applications, the color variation from bin to bin can be highly noticeable and very unpleasant.
In an effort to avoid this variation, white LED approaches rely heavily upon extensive binning arrangements to define regions of color consistency whereby each bin is a restricted set of chips with close CCT spacing. This binning process introduces extra cost and potential waste into the white LED supply. With the Enfis CCT-lock capability, each color temperature selected can be controlled to within 100K thereby eliminating the need for expensive tight white LED binning controls.
